Hi Team. I hope this finds you well. I’ve been a little scarce (in the blogosphere) lately because I’m under the pump finishing my new book for Penguin Publishing. It’s due to be handed over this Friday (Nov. 30)! Good grief. Sleep anyone? FYI, it’s coming along great and is currently sitting at around 90,000 words or 400-ish pages. As objective as I can be about my own stuff, I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever produced (from a literary perspective) and no, that’s not (meant to be) some kind of sale’s pitch but rather my honest feeling about the work I’ve done.
Now, before you ask, no it won’t be out for Christmas; in fact it won’t be ‘in store’ (or available through this site) until May, 2013. It still needs to go through the (final) editing process with the publishers (did I mention I hate people editing my stuff?), the design stuff (cover, layout, etc.), the PR and marketing process and we’re still work-shopping (which is a euphemism for ‘arguing about’) a few potential titles.
Anyway, in the absence of a ‘real’ post, today I thought I’d share some of the Preface (the bit before the Introduction) of my yet-to-be-named book. I hope you like it.
Feel free to share, use or republish it.
SUCCESS: You don’t deserve success, you create it.
Success is not about what the world – God, karma, the universe, society, the government or your parents – owe you; it’s about what YOU do with what you’ve been given. In this moment. And every moment. Success is not about how many motivational books you read, workshops you attend, conversations you have, goals you set, promises you make or how much self-help crap you manage to memorise; it’s about your thinking, choices, behaviours, resilience and results over time. It’s about what you do with what you know. It’s about the application of the information. It’s about knowing what success is for you – not your parents, partner, friends or peers. It’s about how uncomfortable you’re prepared to get and for how long. It’s about stepping out of your ego and into your potential. Out of fear and into consciousness. It’s about your ability to do what the majority won’t. To be the solution person not the problem person. To get up when most would give up. To ask better questions. To create opportunities not wait for them. To find your own truth and purpose no matter how popular or unpopular that might make you. To be courageous in the face of adversity and to live a life in total alignment with your core values.
