More on Commitment

Hey Team. Nice work yesterday with your commitments to make your lives a better place over the next year. One day down, 364 to go! Now that you’ve stepped up to the plate, it’s important for you to keep those wheels turning and to create some real momentum. Create enough momentum and it will carry you through the tough days. Here’s a few simple tips to help you make your commitment stick…

1. Re-visit your non-negotiable behaviours (you might wanna take a peek at that article). What are your non-negotiables? When something is a non-negotiable in your world (a habit), motivation (or lack thereof) is irrelevant. What you ‘feel’ like doing will make way for what you’re committed to doing.

2. Be productive early in the day. It will put you in a better place (mentally and emotionally) for the rest of your day.

3. Stop over-thinking (yep, you).

4. Print off your commitment list and place it in a prominent position. Like your forehead.

5. Be practical, realistic and honest about what you need to do. Making a public declaration is only putting the key in the ignition. Now you need to turn the key and start driving baby.

6. Acknowledge that this is not ‘another attempt’ at change… unless you make it that. Your history does not need to become your future. This is not another phase or temporary burst of enthusiasm for you. Neither is it some ‘cute’ thing you did on Craig’s site that ‘hopefully’ will work. Nothing will work unless you do. You are the solution. Stop sabotaging yourself. Stop rationalising mediocrity. Stop getting in your own way. Stop being a slave to your fears and insecurities and stop limiting your incredible (largely untapped) potential.

7. Spend five minutes (or more) each day visualising yourself in your new-and-improved reality (body, job, environment, relationship, situation, etc.). See it, feel it, touch it, smell it, walk around in it, enjoy it. And then make it real in your physical world.

Feel free to add to the commitment wall – by clicking on the comment thingy – or just leave a comment and say hi. From tomorrow (yes, I know I said today) there will be a link where you can view everyone’s commitments and after today you can add to the commitment wall via email.

… and don’t forget to book your place for our upcoming two-day RYL Program.

Hi Craig,

RYL booked paid for and in the diary!!!!

Step 4 done, well printed though not too sure how much good it will be on my forehead, unless perhaps I print it mirror image. I am going to laminate mine and put it up all around the house.

Step 7 will be hard for me but i will do my best. It has been sooo long since I was slim that I am finding it hard to see myself that way but I will work on it.

I am so pumped for this Craig, I have been on a bit of a plateau lately so this is what I need to get me moving again. Thanks.

Now to work on my non negs. I will revisit mine and tweak. I am a WIP!!!

Hugs,

Michelle xx

Good morning Craig,
Great follow up article – I’m going to print my commitments, plus this article so that I can read it every morning to keep me on track.

Have a great day – Nell ( ) xxxx

Hi Craig
I REALLY laughed at the thought of putting the commitment in a prominent placing – being my forehead.. I actually thought taping across the mouth would work more – could only eat anything after revision (and temporary removal!) of goals, then stick ‘em firmly back in place!!

Hi Michelle

“Step 7 will be hard for me but i will do my best “

If you say it will be hard… it will be!!!!

Stop investing (wasting) emotional energy in your anticipated pain! You’re letting your history and your thinking get in the way of your future and your potential…

Right NOW (not soon, now)you have more than enough ability, knowledge, strength and understanding to completely transform your life…

I believe it… that makes one of us. Or is it two?

Hey Craig

I’m developing my non-negotiable behaviours now. (Started yesterday – will give it more thought today)… Yesterday and today I alarmed self early to exercise before the Brisbane sun turns me into a tomato and a mega high melanoma risk… Yep, have even stopped over-thinking :) … Just printed my 2009 commitments – need to find the best place for it… Ignition is on and I’m rolling out of the driveway. Have typed “Jules’ best life” into the GPS Harper-gator (aka you-dot-com) as the destination. Only I can take me there. But the Harper-gator will help guide me to choose the best pathway – the most effective one – the one that works. No more sitting in the middle of a major CBD intersection for five years and letting life bowl me over because clearly I’m lost and have paralysed self over being lost… Telling self with conviction that this is NOT ANOTHER PHASE or half hearted, piss weak attempt of me creating different. This is it. I’m creating the new-and-improved Jules NOW. I don’t do ‘cute’ dream lists anymore. I’m about action… Will visualise myself learning and growing every day, becoming the best paramedic I can be, crossing the finish line at Ironman WA and living my life in alignment with my core values.

Hi! I really like this post, particularly the part about over-thinking. I’ve done that for years and it really impacts my actions and perceptions.

Are any of you guys on Twitter? I just started a motivational account, posting words of wisdom. I hope you’ll check it out at twitter.com/BeMeaningful.

I sent my submission to the committment wall via email last night – thought I was too late to do the comment thingy. Hope it makes it to the wall !

Thanks for the extra tips and for this opportunity,

Cheers,
