Sand between my Toes.

Hello Kids.

Hope you’ve all had a fab week so far and I hope you’re doing different to create different. I’m having a few days off (that’s different) and resting my tired little (okay, big) self at the beach. If you listen very closely you can probably hear my cells applauding from where you are. I will be reading and responding to your comments but I won’t be posting a new article until Tuesday next week (Melbourne time).

So today is report day for you 28-day habit changers. We’re almost at the half-way point of our little group project so it’s time for some of you to click on the comment thingy and give us that weekly update. Be brave. Good or bad, I want to hear how you’re travelling. It’s important that you get used to the notion of being accountable when you’ve made a commitment to complete a task – even if you’re struggling.

Enjoy your weekend. See you Tuesday….

Okay, so I’ve fallen off the wagon a few times. Granted, because I’ve been sick and due to the mad storms in WA last weekend, the roof caved in at the local gym ad destroyed the cardio room.

Too wet to even think of walking in the rain with a throat infection, so we made up for it at the gym with my weight training.

Cardio sessions have increased to two half hour sessions a day and other than the days I have been sick I am enjoying it and looking forward to mixing it up a bit.

Enjoy the rest and the cheese cake Mr Bossy Pants.

At the end of week 2 of my “do exercise at least 4 times a week for 30 mins minimum”, I’m not that impressed with myself … especially after doing so well in the first week.

Seems I need some external shoving, as my own shoving isn’t working … all excuses aside, I have been very lazy and only biked to work once & did a water aerobics class on Tuesday. That makes for 2/7 days I did exercise.

I am trying not to make excuses for myself, as lazyness is what it comes down to. I am not about to give up though!

Hope everyone else did better than I this week.

() to all.

Hi Joh.

But your potential is huge, so wrap that around some perseverence and you’ll get there. Do your best to have something more positive to report next week – I’ll be looking.

Hi LJ.

1. Been sick
2. Natural disaster at gym
3. Rain
4. Throat infection

Hmmmm…

I don’t see any informtion about your diet… did the illness and the weather make you eat junk food?

Diet is going to be a big part of the weight/fat-loss journey for you… so let’s hear about it!

Craig, Thanks for the blog and the posts. THANKS. And have a great weekend! I’d like to share something I have found as well. It makes so much sense and is from James Ray’s “Harmonic Wealth.”
LIVING FROM THE OUTCOME (Page 322). James says that most people live toward the outcome, meaning you are living like you don’t have it yet. He says you should shift your thinking so that you are LIVING FROM THE OUTCOME and thus sending out the energy to the world that you already have it. Think, feel, and act like you’ve already made it and the universe will say “Your wish is my command.”

For me, that meant acting like I was more valuable as an individual – acting like a $500 a day earner instead of a $150 a day earner (no more reality TV marathons!) and acting like a thin and fit woman instead of a slightly overweight and sometimes lazy woman (goodbye Ranch Doritos!). Honestly, in the two weeks since I put down the book, things have started changing. And I think it really comes down to that one concept.

Check out the Harmonic Wealth site and link to the book: harmonicwealth.com/read

Hi Sus. Well done with the honest self-assessment.

Doing different to create different means exercising even when you don’t want to, when it’s not comfortable, convenient, easy or practical. If you only exercise when you ‘feel’ like it, you’ll never create long-term results.

I often don’t feel like training but how I feel doesn’t matter (excluding injury) – I have made a non-negotiable commitment to my body – you need to also.

Toughen up Sus. Change your attitude to change your body.

A shove for you and a hug ( )

Firstly, I read your comment about people dropping off from the habit changing. I went back to last weeks comments to see if you had commented on my comments and lo and behold my comment was not there. In a nutshell my comment said that last week I did really really well apart from absent mindedly eating a red frog.

This week I have done even better. I HAVE NOT EATEN ANY CRAP whatsoever. No fast food, no service station treats and nothing from a vending machine.

I’m on my way baby.

I hope you enjoy your time at the beach.

Hi Craig,

Well I have had mixed results again with my 28 day challenge to stop my mindless eating. I started off the week well, then I had a few personal issues happen and I had a biscuit binge, I need to control my emotional eating, but the last couple of days I have turned the corner, and have eaten absolutely no junk food and am starting to feel better about things and am believing I can complete this challenge successfully and keep on going past the 28 days.

Thank you so much for this challenge Craig, it has really motivated me to do something about my eating habits, next challenge will be to increase my exercise again.

Enjoy your time off Craig and good luck to everyone else doing this challenge.

I’ve been going great with eating healthy foods in between meals! I had one day last week with a little to much scone with jam but I jumped straight back on the wagon.

This has all been combined with more exercise which wasn’t apart of my goal but it has been welcomed with open arms.
I’ve just started rehearsals for a new show so I’m dancing 2 nights a week and all day Sunday, plus a casual dance class on Friday nights.
Have been making sure I’m staying in touch with nature too – the cold weather defintely keeps me inside more, but I’ve been rugging up and going for walks in centennial park.

I don’t actually own scales..but I’ve noticed my body changing shape and I’m feeling great!

Linda – You go girl! Keep up the good work! Hug for you ()

I almost forgot, my sister (Ange) lives in Brisbane and I told her about this ‘shove for love’ but she doesn’t have internet so I’m updating for her. Her goals were to spend 30mins a day of quality time with each of her sons and 1hour to herself each day.
She has been doing great, very proud of her!

This was a great idea Craig :)

Hi Everyone,

Well a week into the 28 Day challenge & opportunities are unfolding everywhere for me. I have enrolled ( & been accepted) to complete my Degree & start in a few weeks. (Something that has taken 15 Years!!) I have decided that i am putting my needs first & i am worthy of doing this. Not in a self centred way but in a …. “I love & nurture me as much as everyone else” way.

My exercise & diet regime is not the best. I find that when i am under stress, it is more difficult to commit to the “plan”. I know Craig!! Thats when i need it the most!!

This next week is about recording what i am eating & when i exercise. The results may shock me.

Hope your not getting friction burns in the sand, Craig!!
Oh & Yes i am a Karate Chic. Black Belt in Karate & Kali (Phillipino Knife Combat). Its about the self respect & physical discipline not the violence, just in case anyone thought otherwise (LOL)

Have a delorious (yes that is my word) weekend, off to the mountains now,

Hi Craig- I hope you’re enjoying your hard earned break- we all need them.
I’ve had a pretty good week. I walked Sat, Mon, Tues, Thurs and today. One walk was a very long one, meandering over a beautiful part of Geelong, and I have promised myself one of these “time-out” walks every week.
I have been eating carefully- I’m not a total food Nazi- I follow WW principles.
I had one day where I found I didn’t have the will to get up and go first thing, but I didn’t let myself get all beat up about it-maybe I needed that day off.
I had my really good walk yesterday, after a sleepless night- so I was even more challenged- but had got my head around how much I needed to it.
Result- today I’m feeling much fitter and my tummy’s flatter after 2 short weeks of making the effort.
I was totally exhausted at night when I started, but I’m coping OK now.
Cheers…

2nd week – one major slip up. Mine was to stop eating afternoon sweet snacks. In theory I’ve still met that goal but that was because I ate a big load of crap on Wednesday BEFORE lunch, not after! Was very upset after a stupid work meeting, and mindlessly ate 2 mini mars bars, a packet of chips, AND a lemon slice. Of course, I didn’t get to enjoy them b/c I was upset.

Reset myself Wednesday afternoon and decided I wasn’t going to continue with it and have been fine since. Also did exercise Wednesday night and Thursday night and went for a run this morning before work so that should help….

Enjoy your break. I’m having a “holiday at home” this weekend. Cooking and cleaning and walking on the beach. Lovely.
Love

Well – going good with my challenge to not drink more than 3 wines/ an evening. Most nights only 1 ( or 2), but other nights, after a gym workout….really don’t even feel like any. I love my soda water now – with a dash of wine. Thanks for keeping us accountable – I need that – I almost forgot today, till I read your blog. Thanks.
Oh & do different, to create different….thanks for that also…it sounds like a good mantra to keep in my little head (especially at the gym ).

Diet has been good Mr Bossy Pants,

I’ve had nothing that hasn’t been on the plan. No free day. Hubster and trainer extraordinare have been changing my diet and playing with how much protien and carbs I can have.

But food has been impressive and no coke zero either!

Hi,

Did _okay_ – fell apart on Tuesday having had a very stressful day and did the stupid thing and had a couple of cigarettes.

But only 2 and only on Tuesday, none before or since and determination is stronger than ever to not let my mood/stress levels dictate!

I’ve learnt from the weight loss stuff that being honest with myself and picking myself up off the ground, dusting myself off and getting back on with my plan is the best way to deal with the occasional ‘wobble out’.

I decided for the challenge I needed to up my exercise, It has not been going too well really as I am trying to find a job and I am now doing a jobsearch training course…excuses I know. I WILL pull my finger out and get to it this weekend being the long weekend and my kids will be at their dads, should be no excuses…right!!! I have a hard rubbish collection next week and a house to go through so I will make an “exercise game” of it and try and make 10000 steps each day on my pedometer. My weight is going well over 18kg gone in 20 weeks,(so far) Have to be happy with that!!!

Hi Craig
I joined in this one a little late but so far I’ve been able to keep up with what I wanted to do.

I have been on my treadmill for at least 20 minutes every day this week. I’m not even going to mention my chafing issues, but let’s just say the wedgie is my friend at the moment.

It may seem a little sad, but I put a star sticker on my diary for every day I get on the tready. It makes me feel all warm inside, but I do have a very low excitement threshhold.

Thank you for your help with this blog. You’re an utter legend.

My challenge is to exercise every day. Was going well till I flately refused to get out of bed yesterday and the day went downhill from there. Never mind, got to the gym this morning and plan to do lots of walking over the weekend. Keep it up everyone and thanks Craig,

Hey Craig, well, going alright on my online marketing campaign now, really motivated still and trying to organize things so I can put more content online. Still floundering a bit with the time management side of things but slowly working it out.

I get the almost overwhelming feeling that if I succeed at this, I will not deserve it. Really don’t know what thats about but it does affect my working time as I find reasons to not do things as fast as I should.

Am determined over this long weekend to get myself past this block and put out some quality stuff.

Cheers Ian Campbell.

I didn’t check in last week and now it is Friday again (Sat for you) and want to report that overall I did very well in increasing my exercise. I have ran 10.5 miles in this time. My other exercise has been things I have tried while we have had numerous rain days. Jumping rope doesn’t seem to work too well, I wear out quickly and then have to walk around in the garage for a few minutes before resuming. I have tried the kids trampoline and while it seems to be a good workout, I am too old for that much bouncing around of my insides!! My goal for the next week or so is to increase the distance I can run at one time (I am currently running between 1 – 1.6 miles) and to run 5-6 days a week. I am feeling very good about my progress and appreciate this opportunity for accountability!

Hi – I had another good week without any bingeing on piles of crap. On Friday I even managed to have a couple of biscuits at an afternoon work get together without going and scoffing down a whole packet later. That’s a big achievement for me!

Well down to all and enjoy your time at the beach Craig.

OK so here is my update (eating less than 200 cals after 6pm)

Firstly I should apologise for the negativity in my last update, I will make up for it this week I promise! Secondly, sorry for being later than everyone else giving my update but I am in the US so it is actaully still Friday – just!

I had another 2 days this week when I failed on my 30DT and according to the theory that means that I go back to square one. This is only true, however, if the aim is to develop an new habit so that you can continue to do something after the initial 30 days with minimal effort because it is more of a habit. I have two comments to make on that. First I think the thing I chose for my trial is not really a habitual activity because I can eat different things at different times after 6pm I just can’t eat more than 200 cals. Second, despite failing to achieve my goal everyday, each time I fail I am having to pick myself back up and focus on achieving it the next day. I have realised that the bi-product of my failing on the 30DT is that I am exercising and developing my self discipline and I can honestly say I do feel a bit more in control – not because eating less than 200 cals is a habit but because I feel more able to make myself do it! Longer term I will benefit much more from a well devloped self discipline than I will from having formed only one new habit so I am all enthused and will march on!!

Until next week,
Vicki+

Ciao,
my second week was not as good as the first. Anyway I exercised 3 times this week, but I only loose 200gr.
The problem is that I didn’t control my food diet as much as last week.
But I can say I feel a little bit more responsible about my body or maybe I feel I can control it more than in the past. That is a relevant difference to me.
Hope to improve in the next week.

Hi Craig,

Am updating a little late.

Have kept to form on the sleep thing, (just) but that is important. Had at least 6.5 hours in bed 5 nights this week, – had less on the other 2!

But I’m no where near achieving amazing, – as in striving forward consistency like I want to! I let my mindset get in the way. Basically the prob is eating too much crap and food in general. (If I have no crap I don’t want any). This has to STOP, fullstop as I’m active, on the go all the time, train reasonably well and hardcore but am tubby, overweight, not as fit or strong or flexible as I want. IE, I want to buy some sports gear like a wetsuit, but at my fittest am about a size 10-12 but don’t wanna spend lots of money buying a 16 when in a few weeks/months of good zoning with nutrition I’ll be fitting into a 10 or 12 with a much leaner torso!

That’s my goss, am starting a self made program and diary with the aim of doing the City to Surf in under an hour, (12km). It’s in 12 weeks and training and food will be recorded amongst other stuff! I never give up!!!

I am updating very late!! full on weekend moving house and consequetnly no access to the internet until my return to work today.
My habit – not letting how I perceive what others think of me influence my decisions / what I do.
Well, mixed results this past week. Have let my emotions and fears get the better of me at times – not rasied points of discussion with the man in my life; been too afraid to share what’s on my mind with him. Because of that I feel horrible and its not going how I would like it. But have decided that what helps me is to script out what is on my mind before I say it, so will do that this week! If I want to live what I want to have then I have to DO IT!
Thanks for the accountability.

Hi everyone — I actually did check in on Friday but must have hit “preview” instead of “publish”, so my comment didn’t appear. I had a bumpy week in terms of not binging but it was a bit better than the first week. Notably I was able to stop a couple of times before hitting a full out binge.

What really struck me was that I have been binging a LOT more since making the commitment to quit. I think it is part of me saying “No, damn it, you can’t give up this bad habit too — my security blanket is shrinking way too much!”

So far this week I haven’t binged. I’m aiming to be able to report the same thing this Friday.

I’m really happy to see that so many people are doing so well — it’s encouraging to me.
