Book Review 23 and an Update.

Hi Guys. Take a look at book review 23 by the very lovely Victoria May here. Feel free to comment on the reviewed book, to encourage our reviewer, or just say hi and add your thoughts.

An update:

windmill1. Well, today is the last Friday of our four-week SWL project. Hopefully some of you have managed to get the ball rolling in terms of changing some of those nasty habits of yours. You habits-changers know who you are and what I’m on about so click on the comment thingy, share your last update and tell us how you went over the four weeks. I look forward to your feedback.

2. Thanks a bunch for your feedback about the site yesterday. I found it most insightful, interesting and valuable. The over-whelming vibe seems to be… leave it as it is. So for the most part, that’s what I’ll do. In the early days (way back in 2006) the Bald Man and I did a bunch of video posts… we may re-introduce one (or so) of those each month – they’re fun and people seemed to like them. Stay tuned.

3. I look forward to meeting all you RYLers at this Sunday’s workshop here in sunny, warm, tropical Melbourne. Bring a coat. We’re gonna have a rockin’ day and plenty of fun so come with a great attitude and an expectation to be poked, prodded, challenged, educated, motivated and possibly offended… and you might just change your life. We have a few places left for any of you stragglers who may want to book in.

4. How would you like to work with me? Yep, I need a trainee Trainer (like an apprentice) for my Brighton centre (Harper’s Personal Training). Once or twice a year we offer an eighteen month trainee-ship for a ‘spectacular someone’ who is looking to step into the big wide world of Personal Training. The successful applicant will be harassed and mistreated by Johnnie and I on a daily basis, be worked into the ground and make very little money for a year or so. I know, I know… it all sounds too good to be true. To join the team you will need to have a Certificate 4 in fitness and preferably little or no experience in the industry! How good is that?! If you’re interested (why would you be?), send me some info by clicking on this link!

Enjoy your weekend team and here’s a big hug ( ) for anyone who wants one. And for all the alpha-male warriors who are uncomfortable with a man hug, here’s a slap on the shoulder #!* and a firm manly handshake >< for you.

Ciao x

OK, so the 28 day challenge is over. I didn’t quite achieve my goal but hell, I came pretty damn close. Being accountable made all the difference – I stopped thinking about change and actually did something about it. Thanks Craig – can always rely on you for that kick up the “ass”. Plan to continue past the 28 days. Will let you know how I go in the next few months. See you Sunday. J9

Hi Craig,

Thank you so much for the 28 day challenge, it has really got me moving again with my weight loss and has go me motivated to continue on. Thanks ( )

I am pleased to report that I have continued on well with my challenge to stop my mindless eating. I am keeping a food and exercise diary which really helps me keep track of everything. I am eating mainly healthy food, with the occasional treat (as long as it fits into my weight watchers points allowance) and I have stopped my eating snacks during the night. This week I have to admit I ate a bit more than the week before, so I only lost 0.1kg for the week, but it is still a loss and that makes it 1.6kg in 2 weeks. I have also started going for walks again, and hopefully soon I will return to bodypump at the gym, which I used to love.

I hope everyone else has done really well with their challenges too.

Thanks so much.

Hi Craig,
Must say doing pretty well with my habit change of not drinking wine(less than 3/night) – I drink lots of soda water & grapejuice instead now, which I still enjoy.
Thanks for the last 4 weeks – I will continue with my new habit. Hope you continue to prod us a bit sometimes though – don’t forget us ! Being reminded is something I need !
To any other of you habit changers out there – keep it goin’ and congrats on all your successes this far.
Thanks again, Craig – hope I can keep it goin’,

The final report in has arrived – rather quickly I might add! To summarise the past four weeks – ups and downs in terms of not allowing my perceived thoughts of others influence my decisions / actions. There have been more incidents of saying what I think, doing what I want because that is what I beleive. This challenge has brought to my consciousness the way I talk to myself when I have to make decisions. Now I find myself stopping and asking, ‘Does this fit with my mission? With my values and beliefs? Will it work for me and my journey?’ That is a start I guess! Now to keep it going……..
Have a fantastic day Sunday – all of you who are attending!

I feel overall I have done ok, but I wanted to do a bit better. My goal was to exercise minimum of 4 times a week, for minimum of 30 mins.

Summary –
Week 1: 4 times
Week 2: 2 times
Week 3: 6 times
Week 4: 3 times

I don’t go to a gym, and am finding the dark / cold winter mornings & nights hard to exercise, so I have made the decision to join the Fitness Centre at the pool I go to, where I can get a multi membership for the gym & swimming. I am going to do this for 3 months over winter, so I am actually getting out there. & I WILL go, not just think about going!

Thanks for the hug Craig, right back at ya ( )

Sus :)

(Sorry if this has come through twice, it said it didn’t work earlier but I am skeptical!)

I was wondering if it was week 3 or 4 this week, I want 4 more!
I have not kept the same bed-time early morning routine, but have tried to.
I’m on holidays for a few weeks, so my routine is different.
BUT the idea was to organise an environment and time where I would slot a good hilly walk in with my dogs, make it regular, and not be so damn exhausted all the time. The more walking I do, the better I feel about everything, the more I want to do, etc etc,
So, it worked- ‘cos now I’m being very certain about the fact that the walk will happen EVERY DAY, that I will get fitter, etc. My goals are more definite. I have myself in hand again. I DO feel better for it, and I am having some early nights.
I’m doing the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb in August with another one of your readers, and that will be a great little pinnacle to get to- I wonder what will be beyond?

Hi Craig,

Well the final week has been my best yet and feeling so good! Wish it was not the last week, not because I’ll be stopping my new habit but because I like the weekly reports, writing my own and reading others!
Had a great week of training and even got the courage to ride with my old, fast group again. I got severely dropped and had to ride a while by myself but can’t wait for next week to keep up a bit longer!
Every night except Monday, I trained so no option to snack. On Monday I made an early dinner to catch out the snacking demons which also worked. Succumbed to one lindt ball after dinner on Tuesday night, but had slipped in an unplanned 7km run that night too so guilt just wasn’t there.

Oh, and have lost about 2kgs over the 28 days and think only 4 more and will be at ideal- hurrah!

Thanks Craig, can’t wait for the next challenge and well done to all those who have achieved success- keep it going!

Cheers,

Lisa K

Last update well I guess the best way to say it is I SUCK! Cancelled my gym membership 1 month after joining, cancelled weight watchers. Im going it alone and I feel so much better for it. I have exercise equipment at home and a fair idea of what is good for me food wise, its not that hard!

So onto a new challenge for me, succeed on my own for myself. I want what I do to be forever so no more gyms or programs for me. Eat well and move my arse ASS whatever you want to call it :)

So everything has changed but for the better I think..

Hi Craig,

So the end of the challenge has arrived and whilst I did not meet the 10000 steps a day I wanted to I certainly upped the numbers a lot. Are you going to do this again?

I am hoping to go reach and maybe go over the 20kg loss tomorrow.

On an really fantastic note, after being out of work since Nov ’07, I have finally got a job as a Medical Receptionist. I am so happy.

Thanks for everything Craig.

I’m glad you got some good feedback from us! And yes please.. more videos! I really enjoyed them.

Shove with love – things are going really well. I will make a confession though… I worked at the food and wine show today and may or may not have had a few lindt chocolates. It was so worth it though..

So excited about Sunday Craig! Looking forward to finally meeting you in person. I’m totally prepared to be inspired motivated, poked and prodded.

See you Sunday!

Ok, I am gearing for next Sunday’s Triathlon…
Feeling good about the swim and the run…
Trying to build on the biking…

((Note to parents, buy your kids a bike and teach them to ride!!))

I never owned or rode a bike before,
Only in spinning class…
Fyi—its not the same!
One word… Gravity!

But what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger!
Go me!

For all of you exercising, working out, & eating right…
Eggcarton, Michelle, Lisa K, Kristy, Briar, Sus, & J9…
I found the neatest thing ever today, it is on Selfdietclub.com
… you can take a five day tour or its free with a subscription but the features are awesome…
Its like an online diary for fitness, you have a log in, plug in your stats, offer your goals, and wa..la..
You have a Profile…
There is an online food diary that will calculate your calories, carbs, fat, and protein for the day and remind you what your goals are in each of the categories based on your goals.
There is an exercise log where you can track your progress daily, weekly, monthly and even compare days.
The progress tracker tracks your weight, exercise, daily totals, analyzes your diet, compares days, and checks your BMI.
It also offers features like meal planning and finding a fitness buddy.
While I am sure it is not a perfect mathematical account, it sure will help us stay accountable and its really cool to look at the stats…

Anyways, I just wanted to share =)

Craig… good luck at the RYL…
Sending good vibes across a huge ocean!

Ciao Craig,
I’m preatty happy about those 28 days, since I will continue to practice sport 3 days a week. I understood I like it and I feel much healthier. The only problem is that I planned to loose 2.5Kg, but I only lost 1.3Kg (just half). Anyway, starting from this result I should be able to loose the remaning 1.2Kg in the next 28 days.
So Craig, thanks for the opportunity to start this program!
Ciao!
