So I guess we figured out how to get a bunch of comments (see yesterday’s post); offer a prize! Thanks for all your suggestions, words of wisdom and insight; there was some great advice given. Next Monday I will let you know who has a signed copy of my book coming their way. Now that you first-time commenters have stopped lurking in the cyber-shadows, don’t break the habit. I love your comments, ideas and feedback; it helps me know where my readers are at and often gives me ideas for future articles and studi

All in the Name of Science
Not everything that I get involved in is particularly life-changing, educational, sensible or even responsible. In fact sometimes a little irresponsibility is exactly what I need; some strategic silly-ness. As long as nobody dies in the process I’m happy. Minor injuries; fine. A little emotional scarring; no problem. Well, in keeping with my commitment to periodic stupidity, last Friday Johnny, Mikey (my business partner) and I conducted the inaugural craigharper.com beer-a-thon. This involved Boy Wonder (Mikey) running a full marathon (42.2 km, 26 miles) using beer as his only means of hydration; he drank six stubbies (bottles) over his journey. Of course we wrapped some pseudo-science around the stupidity and tested things like blood alcohol and hydration levels (pre and post run) to make the project seem like there was some scientific point to it. In reality, all I wanted to see was Mikey hurl and fall down. We took some great video footage, got some interesting results and laughed our guts out. Well Johnny and I did. Mikey; not so much. He laughed his guts up. I won’t tell you any more because I’m putting together a full report, complete with some hilarious video footage. It will be up in the next week or two, so stay tuned. Sometimes we take ourselves a little too seriously don’t we…
Live-in RYL
Our two day live-in Renovate Your Life program is almost sorted for April(ish) next year. We’re just finalising dates, logistics, cost and a venue at the moment. We’re trying to make it cost-effective so that anyone who would benefit from the experience can make it along without having to sell their kids or mortgage the family home. We will announce the details next week.
TV
I’ll be sharing the love on Channel Ten here in the Land Down Under tomorrow morning at 9.45(ish), so if you’re near a telly, take a gander. We are discussing ‘A Simple Strategy for Optimal Health’ (a recent article of mine).
The Last Bit
Enjoy your weekend Kids. Do different to create different, stop over-thinking (yes, you) and be all about the answer, not the problem. And yes, you can change behaviours on a Friday or even a Saturday. Crazy I know.

Hi Craig,
OOOh I am looking forward to seeing the stuff from the beer-a-thon! I hope poor Mikey has recovered from it!
Can’t wait to find out when the 2 day RYL is so I can check my calendar and pen! it in lol
Won’t be near a tv but I will add it to all the other episodes I have taped.
Thanks for the phonecall today (thurs) I told you things about my weight I have been too ashamed to even tell my family. Also the physio was doing what you suggested anyway but was hoping for clarification so thanks for getting back to me!
Hugs for being such a great person Craig.

Regarding the woman who wanted to start her program on the Monday – since reading this post, I began to observe the many woman around me and nearly everyone of them wanted to start a diet and they all stated that they would start on a Monday! Are we programmed to think that Monday would be the day that changes the world!
Hey Craig ! Can’t wait to see the Mikey hurl-a-thon video !
Will try to remember to turn the telly on at 9.45. It won’t know what hit it, it’s not used to me pushing its buttons !
Have an amazing weekend !

Well Craig I am a bit disappointed that I missed out on leaving a comment the other day – I regularly receive your blog updates thinking that that is all that has been added to your site – when I did visit it just now wondering about the comment part to discover a whole additional part of the blog I did not receive.
Boo hoo to me but it does raise a point that I should just sit back and wait for you to come to me – I should be visiting you reguarly to catch the goss!!!!
So thank you for your motivating and insightful comments and for making me come visit your blog more often now.

ooh Craig…’I'll be sharing the love on Channel Ten’….you have obviously not read Ben Eaton’s ‘Blind Faith’ where ‘sharing the love’ has all sorts of quite revolting connotations…and society is everything you suggest it should not be…
Can’t wait to see the post on your little experiment
Jen from Mildura
TV’s on already and I’ll sit here until I see your dial. It doesn’t matter that your bit is a couple of hours away. I can wait. I’m patient.
Have a laugh on me. LOL

You’re welcome Michelle..

Yes Mary Anne – Mondays and Jan 1.

You enjoy your weekend too Tina..
The TV is that big square thing… near the stereo… by the wall.

Hello Lisa in NZ – visiting the site is always better when you can… ( )
Hi Jen – nup, haven’t read it and probably don’t want to!..
( )
Hi Suu… don’t sit there; do something! Cheers…

Hello from storm ravaged Brisbane,
I have power back on so yes, I will try to catch you on Ten. I could do with a few more reminders about optimal health at present.
Don’t know if it got reported down south, but this little part of the world (suburban Brissy) has just been through a massive storm (mini-cyclone) and basically turned into a disaster zone overnight.
Sure turns ‘normal’ upsidedown.
I keep remembering however to ‘find the good’ and strangely I/we have been able to do just that. People who don’t normally stop to talk have been hugging/comforting/ worrying about each other. Friendships are growing.
We really are a resilient lot (us humans).
I have been inspired by the people in my community who have managed to stay not so serious and to cheer everyone else along, while still getting the job of cleaning up and getting back to normal on the agenda.
It is always a boon to check in and read craig harper dot com as well, to be further inspired and today, to have a good laugh.
Well, better get near the tele –
Have a great weekend, Craig – look forward to the beer marathon footage next week.
cheers,
Monica PS Thanks for listening to my venting above, – I am hugely grateful not to have had any real damage to my home or family. Others around us not so lucky.
PPS Is there an article in this event somewhere – maybe “overcoming the unexpected !!” or similar. See ya… hope you can write one soon. Hugs, M
Hi Monica
Good to hear your house hasn’t been blown away and glad to hear you’re safe.
Will consider your article suggestion – thanks

This made me laugh out loud! Only boys would attempt a marathon drinking only beer hehe! im trying to picture it as when I did the melb half marathon recently i managed to spill most of the powerade tubey things down my front so trying to picture him slugging from a stubby as he ran…hilarious.
sooo looking forward to the 2 day love-in hope to meet you there
Hellen
Is your 9am segment pre-recorded or live-to-air?
Speaking of article ideas: Do you have any strategies for shift workers/emergency service personnel re: ‘diet’/exercise/sleep? To eat or not to eat throughout night shifts? My circadian rhythms are all shaken up.
Jules
I’m with Jules, as a shift worker I find it really hard to know what to eat when and also the exercise thing. Is it worth exercising after night shift before I go to bed – am I too exhausted for it to be worthwhile? An article on this would be fabulous. I’ve had people telling me I just need to get another job, but that won’t solve everything, there will still be someone who needs to do shift work. Hospitals are a 24/7 business!
Craig…just wanted you to know that you are my hero! I've encouraged friends around Australia & the globe to subscribe to the best blog out there (your blog) and get a good Aussie dose of honesty to rock their socks….and you do that every time. Just love it! Keep up the great work (mainly because my day just isn't the same without my morning dose of reality from you)
