A Solution to Obesity

Before we get under way with today’s instalment, just a reminder for you Queenslanders that we are having a meet-up (a casual get together) this Saturday night, meeting in the Rydges foyer (Southbank) at 9pm. This is an open invite for all readers of this site; not just those attending our RYB Program the following day. These informal gatherings are a great opportunity to connect with like-minded people, to make friends, to have a few laughs and possibly, to see me eat my own bodyweight in cheesecake. If you’re keen to come but a little nervous or shy, come along anyway. We’ll make you feel welcome. It’s what we do. :)

Also… this Sunday morning my boy Matt Collins and his team from Fatburners will be running a free one-hour training session for anyone who wants to come along. Matty is a gun so this is a great opportunity to get down and dirty with one of QLD’s best Trainers. If you’re interested, be in the foyer of Rydges at 6.30 am, for a 6.45 start (done by 7.45). And yes, he will cater for all fitness levels…

On with the show…

It’s true; I do have a solution to the obesity epidemic but you best sit down before I share it with you, because it’s very complex and scientific. Ready? Okay here we go:

“Don’t eat what you don’t need.”

Sure I could stretch the message out to forty or fifty thousand unnecessary words, but for most of us, these six words are all we really need to know and apply.

The End.

Two words: why not?

Anon N November 18, 2009 at 2:49 am

I am beaten.

However, being back from the land of my ancesters where I spent some weeks eating what I don’t need, I feel quite new. Maybe, eating what you don’t need in the right place with the right people does the trick. Who knows.

P.S. You may not remember me guys but it’s OK. The new me has a good and forgiving heart.

Debbie November 18, 2009 at 4:08 am

Too simply true.

Jules November 18, 2009 at 4:54 am

That’s pure gold, Craig! Can I add six more words to that?

My current addiction is my Tues 7:30 PM BodyJam dance class.

Hi Craig,

Hmmm. Very succinct post. I wonder if it could work as a Haiku? Hold on …

The food not needed
Will find its own place to stay
Building lumpy hills

Ok, so it’s more of a ‘Tryku’ than a Haiku. Whatever. Am not a weirdo. Much.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Ha ha ha ha……I got comfy in my chair ready for the big spiel, to make me squirm in my chair with guilt or jump up & down with joy for a new insight……instead I laughed out loud for its simplicity. Oh it is oh so simple….come on head……we can do it……”dont eat what we dont need”…..

Thanks,

Pet

I never thought I ate what I didn’t need until I kept a food diary. Now “If I Hog it – I Log it.”

Em From Jem November 18, 2009 at 11:08 am

No! It can’t be true, it sounds far too easy, Craigo. Surely that can’t possibly work!!
Wouldn’t it be better to do the latest fad of low-carb, high-protein, count-the-calories, don’t-eat-potatoes-or-white-flour, only-eat-cottage-cheese-in-the-morning, no-fruit-only-vegies, 15-protein-shakes-a-day and stand-on-your-head-for-two-hours-a-day thing??
Oh, bugger it, there must be a magic pill I can try then I can eat whatever I want and still look like Cindy Crawford!

BTW: Seriously, good advice … I’d take it but my trousers are already falling down!!!

Kate November 18, 2009 at 11:25 am

Its not in the head… its in the hands!

I’d like to humbly add the following 10 words – Minimise one’s exposure to what you don’t need to eat.

Where I work there is building that is five minutes away, and it’s choc (ugh bad pun) full of what needs to be avoided. If I don’t wander over there then I don’t need to expend my mental energy on avoidance.

Cheers

“You can starve to death by reading a cook book.”
Ive been doing a lot of this. Attending courses with 100 great points ( all very interesting but for me perhaps a distraction from concentrating on a few key questions.) so these short hard hitting posts recently have been great for me Craig. Asking better questions is very important. Im looking forward to the Dumbell Rack of Life Part 2- part 1 was great.
Cheers, Dean

Nic November 18, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Ah Craig,
if only it was that easy. Food is made out to be a God.
When someone is being sexually abused where is the help? Food is there to comfort, hide, make it better..
Food is there when another human being cant be.
Advertising bomards our brains daily telling us “only good parents, give their kids this” and we all want to be good parents.
Same as ” your not beautiful unless your underweight and have one foot in the grave from starvation” or taking the “new” designer drug
I can give up smoking as i dont need it to live but food well maybe i can live on my fat stores for a while but sooner or later Im going to need it.
Maybe what you said is the truth but how many can achieve it?

Allyson November 18, 2009 at 6:29 pm

The word ‘need’ is the one that jumps out and smacks me across the face in this profound statement ;)

Sometimes when we (ok … I) do eat what we (me again) don’t need – what we (& me) actually need is to work through what’s going on in our heads or our hearts or wherever it is that our feelings and emotions hide (interestingly I don’t believe it’s in our tummies) – harder to do that hooking into a chunk of brie and a glass of red – but more worthwhile – and doesn’t have the ‘post-binge’ guilt associated with it.

I love the simplicity of your advice Craig – see you Sunday :)
