How Reality Works

The Brief Version..

1. Stuff happens (to you, around you).
2. You tell yourself a story about the stuff.
3. Your story gives the stuff meaning and power (in your mind).
4. Your belief in (and response to) the story becomes your self-created reality.

What kind of stories are you telling?

Reality is just a construct of the mind. It is such a subjective term and has no relevance except in the mind of the observer. Stuff happens and some of it becomes relevant to your version of reality. That does not make it real just real in your version of reality. Reality does in fact not work so much as it reinforces your view of reality hence it appears to support your point of view- your reality. What is real? anything that you want it to be!

It depends on how I’m feeling. They can be tales of woe, despondency and gloom – fingers crossed for a happy (or at least a peaceful) ending. Or if I’m in a better frame of mind, stories with quirky characters, unexpected subplots, surprising revelations, peculiar twists and turns of fortune, and most importantly, funny bits. Reality bears the mark of a good story – you’ll never guess what happens next…

Don.t we have something like 50,000 thoughts a day? of which , many are repetitive, negative thoughts telling us of why we can’t succeed,

It’s those thoughts that keep so many of us down, depressed etc. .

The big question for me is how do we control these thoughts and create a great reality?

I have had a shitful year in some ways, with some hard knocks in terms of one of our kids who has been bullied. We are coming through it, being a tight family unit. I am making a positive picture at the moment. I am shifting the negative for both my daughtrer and us, We had a terrifying exposure to why some kids are bullies, and what happened to them in tis case goes into the unspeakably awful category – child abuse etc. So down the misery gurgler we delved, crawling back out in tact with a kid who will invarably become stronger over time. These kids who were bullying my kid swore the worst words and talk about things they should not know about at 10 years old. Great post. has helped to cheer me up more. The world is a great place with some really awful things happening in it. We are not mad at the bullies, just working out how to conbat it, manage it, understand it and get stronger.
