Hi Craig, I’m a bit late catching up here… must be on Fiji time ! Just wanted to say that I got a good giggle out of this one, having visited Fiji… alone… on two occasions. Yep, my first “Yes, I can do things by myself” effort was a ten day holiday which I completely planned and arranged on my own in 1992, after too many years of being dependant on hubby for just about everything in my life. Mind you, those natives were so friendly that I could have been “picked up” three times on the first afternoon if I’d been so inclined !!! And yes… those taxi drivers… whoaaaaa !!! Anyway, I loved it so much that I went again two years later. I did invite hubby along that time, but he refused to go, because they didn’t have TV in Fiji at the time !!! Can you even imagine… watching TV in a place like that ???!!!! Oh, and one of those taxi drivers sat himself down next to me at the bar of the resort I stayed at one night (Club Fiji in Nadi… cute little bures on the beach… none of this 5 star stuff for me, thank you !) and insisted on buying me a drink. I don’t generally consume alcohol and politely told him so, but he began to act offended (as they do if you refuse any gift). I finally agreed to a mixed drink, not realising that it was going to cost him $8.50… which turned out to be almost 20% of his weekly wage ! The bus driver on a day tour I did told me that most families over there have to choose which of their kids is the brightest, because they can only afford to send one to school. But still they smile !

Yeah, I can agree that you’d have to think twice about the whole “only girls wear skirts” thing. Or at least, saying it out loud.
Mind you, I’ve seen my Dad wearing one of those things – a gift from some friends in Vanuatu…. hairy white legs and skirts just don’t go. Maybe if it was in tartan the poulace would be able to handle it a bit better…. after all we’ve been seeing prince charles in a skirt (scuse me… kilt) for a while and I think we’re less traumatised thse days by such sights.
Just please promise me craig, if you’re going to wear a skirt… please, please don’t do a Brittney/Paris/Lindsey faux pas – wear undies.
