Messages of Support for GYST Challenge participants.

*All messages are displayed as we receive them.

I can’t believe the 4 weeks are over – Congrats to all. Loved reading about your good work.

Jen

To Leanne M,

Hi Leanne, Congratulations on your fabulous transformation and also on your Runner’s Up award. You must be so proud of your achievements. You look amazing and I am sure that you also feel amazing. I too am looking at staring up a similar business and becoming a motivation / life coach. I am already a personal trainer and a Primary School teacher, so I too am hoping to do a few courses to get me to where I dream to be in the not too distant future. It is people like you and the wonderful Mr Harper that really help to inspire me, especially when running a family and work seem to take over.

I just thought that I would let you know about a book that I am currently reading (I hope you don’t mind Craig if I do a little advertising). It is called How to Become Wildly Wealthy Fast by an Australian woman Sandy Forster. Although its title is what it is this book tells of how Sandy got to be where she is now. I am sure that Craig could write one similar. It is more about mindset and belief in yourself and the power of attraction through your thoughts. She is also linked to a website – wildywealthywomen – which is about Australian women who run successful internet businesses.

I was wondering if you would be interested in (I know that I am a personal trainer) helping me achieve my goals leading up to Christmas. It is hard being a trainer as you are always motivating and pushing other people and not so much yourself. I know what to do but to have someone there that I had to answer to would be fabulous. I don’t need to lose any weight I just need to tone a little to be able to wear my bathers with summer with a little more confidence. I would also like to keep in contact and exchange info on business ideas.

Well done again and I look forward to chatting with you.

Dee J

Opps one last message before the challenge is over, oh'll it is over.  This if for Greg,I think your time-line is a great idea and I had a chuckle with the thought of you writing up your resignation letter, great stuff.  Goodluck with your future plans and that will be my next task to sit down and create my own time-line.  Exciting times ahead for all Charmaine.

Thanks Anne for your warm message much appreciated, gives me that little bit more confidence that I am heading in the right direction. Now have you replaced those jeans, remember before you can  truly look after those around you, you have to be in a good head space yourself.  And I know that a new pair of jeans and a haircut and you will feel like a million dollars and project this onto those you love!! Go for it and no guilt (hope I have the right Anne here).

A big congrats to everyone for focusing on changing aspects of their lives over the past 4 weeks and if any of you at all are still struggling with that big four word FOOD, you can't go past that book Fattitude, really helped put my head in the right space.

Charmaine :)

Congrats to everyone who is sticking with the GYST challenge.  I admire your sticking power!

Charmaine, go for that certificate.  There are lots of us out there who need someone like you on our side as we tackle our demons.  You will know exactly what we are facing and how we are feeling.  If anyone could get us through you could.

Anne

Hey,

I just stumbled in to the Support Messages today... I'm really touched.

In two hours time I start night shift and my motivation is a little low at the moment...  I wish I was living my dream life NOW, not 'some time' down the track.

Then I had a look at the support messages here, and was instantly picked up!

Thanks folks.  I'll be singing on my way into "hell" tonight!  I can't change my environment (yet!), but I can change the way I react to it : )

Will have a look at Martha Stewart... I don't know who she is, but might be worth a look.  Thanks for the tip.

The declutter thing is going really well.  Room by room.  But wife and children remain a little reluctant though.

The really tough question is:  How do you motivate those you love, or care about.  (Be they family, or workmates), to push a few boundaries, start exercising, be more positive?

Cheers,

Greg

Hey there fellow GYSTers,

Just wanna let you know that you are all grouse, ace and fabulous!!  Hope you are all having fun… J

(( ))

Amanda B

Hey Gysters…where are all the week three reports??? And where are all the male ones??? Is it only us hirls who are sticking it out???

CH – KK has your number mate – LOL! KK I am glad your business id going well.

*Cheers very loudly for Ron D*

Hugs for everyone!

Jen

Hey GYSTers

I noticed that some of you guys and gals haven’t done an update for week 2 (some haven’t done week one either).  Time to come clean and let us know how you are going.  Remember Craig said yesterday “Do NOT let the wheels fall off your GYST wagon... or I will hunt you down and pull your armpit hairs.Very hard.”  And just for good measure I will torture you even further by tickling you and singing too you while your armpit hairs are being pulled out (I am warning you that this would be true torture …….me singing that is!)

C’MON it is not too late to redeem yourselves and send in an update.  Even if you haven’t done what you should have done, you are NOT a failure.  Just regroup and get on with it.  CMON you can do it!!!

Leanne M

Hey there fellow GYSTers

Just wanted to drop by and send you all some cyber love!!

BIG ((()))s

Amanda B (Melbourne)

P.S. Hey KK, I am sure you are not alone in wanting to get your hands on the Big Scary One!!  Good luck…LOL

To all GYSTers – congrats on accomplishments in week one! Lets keep on going.

Jen

Hi All,

Everyone seems to be humming along nicely this is a little message to Jen, I can only try and imagine what your daughter is like. I to have a queen of Sheba, mine is 13 turning 14 and I must say though it’s awful at times she reminds me of the patients where I work (acute mental health).  We were only in the carpark the other day and I got a fair amount of attitude and my youngest daughter goes that’s not very nice you don’t scream in carparks!!  And yes I think we carry a lot of baggage and guilt with parenting, so give yourself a pat on the back knowing that you have done the best possible.

Have a great week

Charmaine J

Hey Everyone,

I've just finished reading all the week 1 updates and they are inspirational.  It makes me want to try even harder this week.

Hey Amanda B.....hope everything goes really well for your Cert IV exam this week, I'll be cheering for you.

I know we will reach our goals.....Great things will happen!

A friend sent me this message a while ago and I love it....

'hold onto your vision for the future and you'll be ready to soar when the time is right'

Have a great week fellow GYSTers...

SandraP

HI -this is for GREG

You are not an anal retentive!  I dont think there is anything much better than being organised and it doesnt mean that you are "inflexible".  The more organised I am, the calmer I feel, ( and the more I get done) because Im not searching and pulling my hair out looking for the dvd remote, my keys, my right red shoe, the cheque book/passport, a box of matches and the medicare cheque that arrived two weeks ago! ( just to name a few......).

A little bit of martha stewart  goes a long way ( i mean the organisational stuff, not the carving pumpkins into the statue of David stuff-NOw that is weird)- People are gonna say Im the anal retentive ( that sounds like a song LOL)-

all the best with your life "de-clutter!"

Elroy ( Melbourne)

Hi All,

I have just read through all the updates for week one and I felt the need to shout WOOOO HOOOO!!!!!

You guys are all doing great.  It feels fabulous to be a part of this challenge…

To Sandra P:  Just wanna through some extra special encouragement your way as I totally get where you’re at…. GO GIRL!

Big Hugs to everyone,

Amanda B

This is for Debbie,

Seeing as how my name is Debbie too I'm cheering you on from the sidelines.

Go, Debbie, Go.  *jumps up and down*    woooohoooooo.

Hugs From The Debstar.

To Leanne M.,     Thank you Leanne for your words of encouragement. I do have several illnesses that might not go away but I am determined to get this obesity gone so that I can have a chance to fight the other things. I know I can do this now.  I know that this will make my life easier just by getting the strain off of my body for sure. This 28 day challange is great and I'm not stopping after 28 days,  I'm changing my life forever!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you again for your encouragement, meant alot to me.

Debbie (Texas)

For all of my GYST family,

I know you are all achieving and believing.  Happy first weekend!

Here is proof that with good planning, the glass is never half empty:

“If you lose your job, your marriage, and your mind all in one week, try to lose your mind first, because then the other stuff won't matter that much.”-JHandy

Smile, you are already winning…. Almost one week and our minds are still intact, right?

()s for all!

Tami

This is for Charmaine.

Thanks for the quote Charmaine. I love it!  It is really true isn't it, and it is probably the core of my goal. I am working hard at changing my mindset about it all.  Good luck to you with your goals too.

Anne

What do u think??? Is there an easy way??  Out story in part...

Ivy and the Poison Apples

I myself am testament to seeing what addictive substances can do to us. I am personally feeling f*#%ed up because of them.

- caffeine
- nicotine
- booze

All things that so many of us don't associate as 'drugs' until you try and stay 'clean' from them. Caffeine doent seem BAD until u try n stop having it.....! Evn with the ciggies and booze the caffeine hurts removing it on it's own!

I myself tried to 'detox' from all of the above last week….. And nearly tore my own head off. The withdrawals were excruciating….. And I don't know what was worse…. And I KNOW they're all BAD…. But I just could not cope. SO I tried to detox with 'coffee' still being allowed….and I know that it doesn't work!! All 3 things are so much hand in hand! I couldn't do it and I relapsed in to all things 'evil'.!

This week….. My BF was forced by doc to give up all 3 things simultaneously because of personal issues…and I tell ya I was not envious.. I swore I would be 'support' and I haven't been…. I could not cope with myself let alone him AS WELL!! I just had a run in with him….. Trying to stop him 'relapsing' and he won't listen to me because some little voice in his head says 'shes still doing it; so she cant be trusted….. I'm still missing out!!”

MISSING OUT ON WHAT??? That's what I was trying to say …. Missing out on nothing… fold and u start again! EVERTIME…. Give up and break and ur starting AGAIN! I've done it! I know the pain; but I wasn't strong enough and didn't have the support to stop. I thought if I could do it for him then next he would do it for me. But I was wrong. He has weathered a small part of the storm, I thought that would help! I didn't want to see him going backwards! I know I shouldn't have done the same thing…… but it's all right for me right>!? Because no one has officially told me to stop?! And even though I want to …. The discomfort gets too great and I fold?! HEAD IN THE SAND??

And then… there's a little voice in my head that speaks allowed when confronted that says “ well what about when I was having 'drinking problems' and I was trying to eat healthy and I lost 12 kgs…. Where the f#*k were u??? U were living right beside me and I forced myself to do what I wanted to do despite ur unsupportiveness!!!!!!!! Despite u going fishing with booze all the time and bringing friends around to get on it…. So doesn't that make it fare now?????

So there the question lays'… where does that motivation come from>> ?? What makes the trigger turn>? Tony Robbins would have that it comes from either pleasure or pain… but it's gotta be great and it's gotta be real!!! And when it is… there's no going back! Just try and stop someone with that motivation…. They're like a boulder! I KNOW BECASUE I'VE DONE IT BEFORE! But I dint know why; I havent seemed to be able to get that same motivation again!

So I've typed a page and discovered that all the substances mentioned above… CAN really f#*k with u…. But if u rid them….I'm sure you'd be NORMAL and not NEED them…. You just have to break the habits and addictions and I'm sure you'd be happy you got rid of them….but when u feel like u need them… need SOMETHING then what>>>?? Where is the contingency plan>>??

Well my friends…. Despite all my reservations… I think I'm about to become a test dummy…….

Today I weed out all…. I am going to undertake the same demands to first hand support someone I care about…OMG the prayer says those things that don't kill us make us stronger….. I just hope we can come out of it relationship intact and stronger than ever!

AMEN

So Craig.... a crazy womans take on the 'normal' addictive things in life! I dont believe i am CRAZY; im sure there's something in this for so many of us.....do u know anything i dont that might help?!?

Kaddy and Dan

Hi GYST teamsters.  And thanks Kristen for your message of encouragement and sharing your positive thoughts.   Here is my C'MON message of support.

We are all amazing and maybe even a bit weird (in the best possible way of course) for being in this challenge.   Lets get out of our comfort zone and have fun doing it !!!!   Weird idea ??   It certainly is for me  -  but I'm going to give it a go.

I have a weird idea to share for anyone who has problems with trying to stick to healthy eating.   Try this mental exercise every time you think you are about to eat or drink something unhealthy.  Imagine you can see into your body like one of those animated science programs on TV and every part of your body can "talk".   Picture your stomach complaining loudly when you put crap into it, picture your liver and other organs going into an overworked frenzy and arguing with your stomach for "letting" that crap through.  Picture your muscles saying "you have got to be joking" and rejecting the crap….. and so on.   Every time you eat something healthy, mentally picture the reverse image (a thankful and happy body) or maybe imagine all the parts of your body making beautiful music like a finely tuned orchestra.

C'MON we are all potential champions – let's prove that we ARE champions   -  to ourselves, family & friends, GYST teamsters and to that “Bossy Man” who started all this.

Leanne M

Hey all,

Firstly, a HUGE thank-you Craig for your 'virtual kick-in-the-butt' (a.k.a your 'C'MON!!!!' message) on Tuesday.

I was making an average start to the challenge, and when I read this, I decided that average just wasn't gona cut it.

We are here to give it 100%!!  100% effort, 100% ATTITUDE.  Give it all we've got!

Do we wana get this support base going?  There's 50 of us so drop by and throw some our way...even just a simple 'C'MON!!' every once in a while...after all, we're a team, and every bit counts!  :-)
We can all kick some butt in these 28 days!

I thought maybe I could share this for anyone else battling with negative thoughts (or am I the only one?)...

I decided that I was no longer going to tolerate any negative self-talk, and it's a good thing I did too, cuz it makes one hell-of-a difference to what you achieve.  Anyway, I read somewhere once that you should talk to yourself the way that you would a close friend....now, without a doubt, I know that I would NEVER talk to a mate the way I do myself...so why is it ok to treat ourselves like crap?

It's NOT, so keep beating away those negatives and build yourself up (love yourself sick, baby!)...it makes a HUGE difference in how successful we are!

Stay strong, focused and HAPPY guys and girls (enjoy the ride!!)
...It's great to have an end to journey towards, but it's the journey that matters, in the end.

Kirsten :-)

Hey there,

I have just been re-reading some of the GYST submissions. I must say they are all brilliant and very inspiring!  It's so good to see a whole bunch of people sharing their goals like this, makes one realize that we are never really alone…

Greg, in particular, really touched me.  I love the fact that he wants to smile more and play more with his family, AWESOME!!!

Amanda B (Melbourne)

Craig

I totally agree with everyone else who has thanked you Craig for getting this challenge started...  It really has been just what I need to get started and as you put it GYST....  It has been my mantra for today, whenever I have felt like not sticking to my healthy eating or not getting my exercise in, I have repeated my Mantra - "Jodie - Get Yer Shit Together!!".  So far so good.  I intend on making it through these 28 days with gusto!
All the best to the other GYST participants, go people go! Make it happen.

Jodie

Hey I am off to a flying start already- already found a new home to move to and the timing will be perfect - in my holidays! Started packing in the 'shed' where all my crafty crap is and put some stuff on one side - mum and dad's for now (cos there aint enough space where I am going) and the other side ready to go with me. Made another 'dig deep' post to the counsellor too. Spent some time out with freinds on the weekend too- And yes Nick and Amy are right - THANKYOU Craig!

I wish all of us the very best GYST time. Off to read what others are doing!

Jen from Mildura

I am so excited about the challenge. I went to the gym tonight for the first time in about 2 or 3 months and did a pump class, I know if it wasn't for the challenge I wouldn't have got off my arse and did it. Can't wait to report in next Monday!

Kate

Hey Craig,

Ta for the super quick response.  Could you pass this note on to Virginia from Melbourne, she wants to write a novel. This site and their great encouragement has helped me write 4 novels so far: Simply Google National Novel Writers Month, or NaNoWriMo.  Held in November every year, thousands of us sign up and spend the next 30 days writing 50 000 word novels.  It's a hoot, lots of support and advice, and the best part is you get the motivation to get going and keep going.

Cheers,

Greg

Hi Michelle, good to hear there is another Tassie-ite here!

Julie (Hobart)

Hi all,

just wanted to let you know that the mere fact of reading about a group of people who are setting real definite goals, and are willing to write about it on the internet is a inspiration in itself! (for those among us.. uhhh ... less brave ;-))

GOOD FOR YOU! All the strength to you all!!
Craig my sincere respect to you for what you are doing, your blog is an inspiration in itself!!

E.
p.s. never knew that Father's day isn't a global thing. Ours is in June!

Hi Craig.

You're a freak. I don't know how you do all the stuff you do or where you find the energy. On behalf of me and all my friends who hang out on your site regularly and constantly get fed amazing stuff for free with no hooks, catches or agendas, thankyou so much.

The amazing thing about the challenge you have created is that you get nothing out of it. I was talking to my wife about this and we believe it is unique to find someone who genuinely just wants to help people.
We love your no bullshit style and we greatly appreciate what you're doing for so many people.
Love and hugs, Nick and Amy.

Hi Craig,
Nick and Amy are spot on it is amazing that there is someone out there geniunely giving of their time and not wanting anything in return. I am a strong believer in karma and so I think you will be engulfed with some lovely warm fuzzy stuff in your life :)
Have a great day and to everyone doing the challenge enjoy the experience.
Charmaine

Hi Craig,

When I read through the other GYST submissions there was one in particular that really touched me.  It was from Debbie in Texas, and on reading it I felt compelled to “reach out” and encourage her.  I assume the diseases Debbie refers to are probably not curable but I can say from my own personal experience that living a healthy lifestyle can make such a HUGE difference.  Five months ago I changed my lifestyle completely and I now enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

I have had moderately severe asthma since I was born and this winter is the first winter that I can remember where I have not got at least one really bad cold, which has then triggered severe asthma and/or a very nasty chest infection/bronchitis.  Probably the most important factor for me was the healthy eating – especially lots of  vegetables and fruit.  So I encourage Debbie to embrace a healthy lifestyle with passion, and she will definitely reap the rewards.
Leanne M

Unsure where to put this so placed here, its a message from one frump to another (hi Anne)! Just remebered a great quote when it comes to looking after yourself, maybe you will think I am a little weird too after reading this.
"For the world to treat you well, you have to treat yourself well. How can you feel like a mover and shaker if you have holes in your underwear?" Andrew Matthews
Maybe not only your shoes need replacing!!! :)
